Episode #61: Training for Nonprofits – How We’ve Got it All Wrong

In today’s episode, Tobi discusses about training for nonprofits and how we’ve got it all wrong. When we do launches and promotions at VolunteerPro, we ask our audience of followers why they didn’t buy. We want to know what are the barriers that our community of leaders of volunteers and volunteer driven organizations are coming up against when it comes to enrolling in something that can help them get traction and gain better results. The top four reasons on the recent result broke our hearts.

Tobi addresses these four barriers to training and emphasizes the importance of investing in training to improve efficiency, communication, and overall success in nonprofit organizations.

Training For NonprofitsWhy people don’t enroll on trainings?

Number one reason based on poll was, I would have to pay out of pocket and I don’t have the money.

Number two, no budget for professional development. Our organizations have not set aside any budget to support their employees.

Number three, I don’t have enough time, there’s not time to make improvements to the work I’m doing.

Number four, my supervisor did not approve. My supervisor did not approve, so I’m not getting the support I need.

Training For Nonprofits – Importance of Trainings

Training is important because it can have a huge impact on an organization’s success. Effective training for volunteer leaders can improve their skills in self-management, self-awareness, social skills, and social awareness. This type of training can help volunteers become better at their jobs. Additionally, training can improve efficiency, communication, and overall success in nonprofit organizations. It can also help volunteers become more committed to the organization’s mission and take on increasing levels of responsibility.

Training can also focus on specific competencies needed to lead volunteers, such as delegation and conflict resolution. These competencies are often barriers to effectively engaging and leading volunteers, and training can provide volunteers with the fundamental skills needed to overcome these barriers. However, it is important to determine if training is needed and to have specific goals in mind for what the training should improve. Investing in training is worth the cost because it can solve problems and improve results.
